About KVK

Krishi Vigyan Kendras are established by the Indian Council of Agricultural Research, New Delhi to accomplish the job of transfer of technology in the field of agriculture for the benefit of farming community in general. The basic objective is to increase the agricultural production in the country and to improve the living standard of people.

Krishi Vigyan Kendra is a district level organization engaged in transfer of latest technologies to the farming community of the district. KVK acts as a bridge between the research organization and farmers that works for solving the location specific problems (issues) of farming community in agriculture and allied fields.

Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Lunkaransar has been established in March 31, 2012 under the administrative control of Swami Keshwanand Rajasthan Agricultural University (SKRAU), Bikaner with full financial assistance from Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) through ICAR-ATARI Zone-II. Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Lunkaransar located at Lunkaransar on Bikaner-Sri Ganganagar Highway at a distance of 72.5 K.M. from Bikaner. KVK Lunkaransar is having an operational area of 20 acres, out of which 16.5 acres of land is under cultivation and 3.5 acres of land is under buildings, roads, paths and irrigation channels. The inauguration of administrative building was done by Shri Radha Mohan Singh,

Hon’ble Minister of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, Government of India on 18th February 2017. The major objectives of KVK is to organize need based and skill oriented training programmes for practicing farmers and farm women by the principles of “Learning by doing” and “Teaching by doing”.

Mandates of KVK

• Organize front line demonstrations on various crops on proven technologies to generate production data and feed-back information.
• Conducting on farm testing for identifying technologies in terms of location specific sustainable land use system.
• Organize short term and long term vocational training courses in agricultural and allied sectors for farmers and rural youths with the emphasis on learning by doing for higher production on farms and generating self employment.
• Organize trainings to update the extension personnel with emerging advances in agricultural research on regular basis.
• Work as resource and knowledge centre of agricultural technology for supporting initiatives of public, private and voluntary sector for improving the agricultural economy of the district.

Priority thrust areas

1. Promotion of agro technology for drought proofing covers, crop production arid horticulture and soil moisture conservation.
2. Promotion of arid horticulture for sustainable agriculture production/income .
3. Improvement in animal production through feeding, management and animal health etc.
4. Promotion of green fodder cultivation and organic farming in the area.
5. To develop skill for farm women in agriculture, animal husbandry, horticulture and home science.
6. Promotion of cultivation of seed spices, medicinal plants and preparation of value added products.
7. Integrated pest management in rabi crops (wheat and mustard) and kharif crops (Guar and groundnut).
8. To promote the value addition activities of locally available arid fruit and vegetables.
